My Passions related to my Spare Time
When I am not doing work stuff, I like to be outdoors. Close to home I like to run (I ran Madrid's marathon in 3h30min back in 1999) and mountain bike, but when I can have a few days off, I like to travel, and do sports which bring me in contact with nature: scuba diving, hiking, sailing, alpine and cross-country skiing. I also hold 1st dan in Judo, but its a few years now I don't train. I used to do other riskier sports (skydiving, rafting, bungee jumping) but as Joonatan (7) and Tommi (4) came into the picture, I decided to channel my energy in a different way. I also like reading and photography.
My Passions related to Work
I love working with Management to deploy their full potential whether through consulting or coaching. I like to train people in skills which help them achieve their best. As a basic communication tool I use Transactional Analysis (TA) since 1997, and ever since then I have been applying it to my direct teams and customers. It has proven to be a very efficient and comprehensive toolbox.
I enjoy very much developing teams, training management skills, and am highly specialized in Creative Thinking and Innovation.
My Working Experience
In the beginning of 2006, I launched my own consulting, training and coaching firm with the clear target of providing my customers with services which give them truly innovative solutions. It came as a natural need after having led an engineering company for almost 15 years, in which we always reinvented the rules of the game for our competitors, and in which we were always creating new ways to leave them behind. Besides my extensive experience in a management position, my broad training has given me the profound undertanding needed in order to transmit to others, the knowledge gathered throught these years.
From 1993 to the beginning of 2007 I was the Managing Director of an engineering company in Madrid, Spain. We were a very innovative company always expanding our limits, by stretching our goals, and continuously learning how much our team can achieve through new challenges and thanks to our change-driven attitude.
Before this period, between 1991 and 1992, I worked in the UK and the US, for The Gates Rubber Company.
My first work, after finishing my studies, was as a hydraulic engineer at Hidratec, in Madrid, where I spent one year.
My Education
I love learning. Besides the most recent or important training shown below, I have taken a lot of training in management skills and models like public speaking, presentations, management by objectives, leadership, emotional intelligence, sales team management, implementing BSC, and others.
In 1990 graduated as Mechanical Engineer with honours from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
From 2004 to 2005, I attended in Utrecht, Transactional Analysis in Organizations, held by Intact.
In 2005 I attended CPSI 2005 (Springboard to Creative Problem Solving) organized by the Creative Problem Solving Institute, at St Paul (Minnesota). Further in CPSI 2006, I attended a Facilitating Creative Leadership training: Tools & Techniques.
Also a de Bono Certified Trainer for Six Thinking Hats.
I hold a Masters degree in Counselling and am a certified Expert in Psychopathy and Psychodiagnostics, with extensive training in Integrative Psychotherapy at Instituto Galene, in Madrid.
In the process of getting certified as a Transactional Analyst in the field of Organizations through EATA.
Regarding psychometrics, I am a certified MBTI practitioner.
In 2007, I will finish also my accredited coach training through ICF.
My Travelling
I started to travel pretty soon. I was born In Helsinki, Finland, and two months later, my parents moved to Madrid, Spain where I have been living most of my life. With my parents and brothers we travelled to Finland by car every other summer.
As I am a Finnish citizen, in 1983 I travelled to Finland, to join the military service in Sodankylä, within the Artic Circle, in the North of Finland.
Between 1986 and 1989, I rode throughout Europe with my BMW R100RS. In 1988 went to Finland with my wife Mar. That was my longest trip in Europe (c. 12.000 km). Then in 1989 visited former Yugoslavia. After that trip I decided, well Mar decided, that it had been enough bike riding and soon started to travel by plane.
Nowadays most of the travelling is outside Spain, and if posible outside Europe, whether for work or pleasure. Countries I have travelled so far for business are: China, France, Italy, Germany, Finland, UK, Norway, Sweden, PolanSd, USA, Belgium, Holland,
And for pleasure: All of the above plus Switzerland, Austria, former Yugoslavia, San Marino, Andorra, Monaco, Luxemburg, Hungary, Czeck Republic, Liechtenstein, Denmark, Estonia, Canada, Mexico, US Virgin Islands (St Thomas, St Marteen, Barbados), Kenya, Nepal, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapur, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Morocco, Greece, Dominican Republic.
The most amazing place so far: Nepal.
