Über mich
Biology has long been an inspiration for business with examples that can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians, the early Chinese dynasties and famously to Leonardo Da Vinci in more recently times. Known in today’s leading edge research community as biomimetics, the latest applications of lessons from nature are being used by engineers and architects in building design and product development. Familiar examples such as Velcro and the original Crystal Palace have been the inspiration for a resurgence in the approach with a wide range of businesses looking to gain competitive advantage.
Phil Richardson’s research at the University of Bath, takes biomimetics in a different direction. He questions whether biomimetics can be used to design products, services, processes and run business itself. He has compared the development of a new business biomimetic process and a range of models with the traditional approach to business and has made five key findings
• Biology can help you drive strategic thinking
• Biology can inspire leadership and manage change
• Biology can help build a sustainable business with an implementable corporate social responsibility
• Biology is readily accessible and easy to communicate to senior business executives
• Biology is the next biggest thing in management
• Biology creates products that are unexpected
Phil will show you how crabs can inspire businesses to grow and how to develop design principles based on nature. He will explain how this approach is being used to generate profitable revenue for the world’s biggest brewer and why companies such as Lloyds Banking Group, Mars, the MoD and Northern Rail are actively involved in this leading edge work. Finally Phil will share with you how this research can be applied to your situation by letting you experience the approach for yourself.
