Über mich

Professional experience,

(1998 – present)
I founded http://www.visualemotion.com and left the Ministry of Defense to become a Freelance Photo-journalist
Having gained both extensive experience and international acknowledgment, a broad selection of my work has been published in books, newspapers, magazines and exhibitions around the world. I have produced photographic essays, features with accompanying articles on a wide variety of topics and in three different languages (Dutch, English and German). Some time ago I have moved to Vienna as my new Operational Base and I may count - amongst others - the APA (Austria Presse Agentur) and Der Standard/Rondo (Daily newspaper) and Universum Magazine to my clients while internationally National Geographic (Washington) and Preview (Dubai) are real gems in my portfolio. In 2009 I was nominated for the OBJEKTV-FOTOPREIS in the categorie ART & CULTURE with an image out of a portrait feature of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra published in the RONDO magazine (Der Standard).

(1993-1998) as Photo-journalist for the Press-office of the Dutch Ministry of Defence(Directorate of Information). As such I traveled the globe with my camera which I had to put to use in warzones as well as at humanitarian missions in places like Bosnia, Ruanda, Arabian Gulf region etc. Even in the Netherlands during the floodings of the River Maas in 1994 and 1995. In 1996 I was rewarded international acknowledgement by winning an international Photo Press Award for war correspondents at the time being exhibited in Siskiu, Rumania. Featuring an essay about the difficult situation of Dutchbat in Srebrenica(Bosnia-Hercegowina). As a result of Photographic Essays on, and assistance to Doctors Without Borders in Ruanda as well as other humanitarian aid missions I’ve got several letters of appreciation.

(1989-1991) I studied photography at the Dutch institute: De Nederlandse Fotovakschool in Apeldoorn.
As a regular in Military Service I have learned to work under all circumstancs. Regardless of futile things like terrain, weather, time and pressure ;-)). This was very much of use in my first photographic job:
