About me

Robert Koller is a partner of international law firm Simmons & Simmons, based in Frankfurt am Main/Germany, specialised in debt capital markets and hedge funds. Previously he was several years with another major law firm in Frankfurt. Before he worked in the financial services department of a top Spanish law firm and in the funds department of the biggest Gibraltar law firm. Previously, he gained also experience in the diplomatic field, having worked at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Robert  represents issuers, including sovereigns, guarantors, arrangers, dealers, managers, underwriters, trustees, and agents in national and international capital markets transactions.

He has also ample general capital markets experience (including equity transactions, derivatives and ISDA documentation), as well as in financial regulatory law and project and asset finance. He is especially interested in alternative investments, such as CoCo bonds, cat-bonds and other insurance linked securities as well as infrastructure investments (e.g. project bonds). Robert has also worked in the general corporate and corporate finance areas, including take-overs, private placements, Public Private Partnerships, compliance and M&A. He was involved in establishing electronic trading platforms and has also worked for shorter periods in Mexico, France, Austria and the UK.

Educated in Austria, Robert graduated an Austrian and a Spanish law degree. He is qualified as a Spanish and German lawyer and is a member of the Bar Associations of Madrid and Frankfurt/Main. He is also admitted to practice law as a Solicitor in England and Wales. Robert has also made himself a known name in European law by winning a landmark case before the European Court of Justice [see here] as well a sbefore the Austrian Consitutional Court [see here], in both cases representing himself in all instances.

He holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst certification [www.caia.org] and is together with another colleague leading the CAIA Germany Chapter [see here]. Robert is fluent in German, Spanish, English and conversant in French.
