About me

I, Volkhart Hanewald, currently work as an attorney with the Brazilian firm Dannemann Siemsen. My clients are almost exclusively from countries in which German is the official language. I handle their trademark applications and registrations in Brazil and other Central and South American countries.

Working in IP is comparable to being a member of a very exclusive club. I am therefore pleased - but not surprised - to find quite a number of people whom I have actually personally met, or at least corresponded with at some point, in this site.

As to myself, I am German, but I went to school in the United States and Canada. I am admitted to the bar in Hamburg, Germany and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I live since 1994. I am also a licensed Brazilian patent attorney (as a matter of fact, in 2004 I passed the first patent attorney examination in this country held after the military dictatorship in this country).
