Retired
financial services professional William D. Berghold enjoyed an extensive career
as a stockbroker while also earning a reputation as a philanthropist focusing
his work on at-risk and underserved children. A graduate of College of the Holy
Cross, Mr. Berghold completed the stockbroker training program at Merrill Lynch
before quickly advancing as a stock trader on the floor of the New York Stock
Exchange (NYSE). Subsequent roles as Partner at Hubschmen, Fleschner, Inc., and
Hirshon Roth & Co. eventually led to a nine-year tenure as Partner for M.J.
Meehan & Co. Specialty brokerage firms such as M. J. Meehan & Co. focus
on trading a select group of prominent accounts on the stock floor. Having
demonstrated a particular acumen in this area, William D. Berghold went on to
join another prominent specialty firm, Stern Brothers & Co., where he
served as a Managing Partner for almost two decades, when he retired.
Throughout his career, William D. Berghold took an interest in a number of
charitable organizations whose mission is to serve at-risk children or children
with disabilities. Mr. Berghold became active with the Hole in the Wall camp in
Ashford, Connecticut, part of a network of camps for at-risk children to
recover from traumatic events. Mr. Berghold has also volunteered at Covenant
House New York, a homeless youth shelter in New York City, and Camphill Village
USA, a community in Copake, New York, for children and adults with
disabilities. William D. Berghold served as a board member of Camphill Village
USA from 1988 to 2009. He was also part of the community’s Executive Committee
and led the Investment Committee during this period, as well. Mr. Berghold has
also been active on the Board of the M.J. Meehan Foundation, which provides
grants and loans to charitable organizations. William D. Berghold now resides
