Our client is a newly founded International Foundation in the area of Animal Protection with Headquarters in Switzerland. As a newly established NGO with its initial funding coming from a group of business people and entrepreneurs in Switzerland and Germany, the organization has identified Romania as one of its first target countries for its activities.
With Romania being the first country of operation in the foundation’s network, the holder of this exciting and versatile position will be working from a solidly funded platform in order to establish both the organization and a successful case for further international growth. With its main and first target being the welfare of stray dogs in the country, the organization may well expand its activities to other areas of animal protection in the future.
As such, the position holder’s initial responsibility will be – supported by a local Romanian Operations Manager - to establish and manage a project team consisting of around 12 – 15 people (veterinarians, medical assistants, drivers, administration, communication, and operational support). This team will then start in the Bucharest area in order to look after the wellbeing of stray dogs, and to support their environment through vaccinations, nutrition, sterilizations, and the like.
In this context the responsibilities of the Country Manager will encompass hiring and developing the employees of the foundation, finance and controlling, professional project and process management, communication and networking with public authorities and private partners in Romania and Internationally, and liaising with headquarters to ensure strategies, planning and project targets are met.
This versatile international opportunity will require an experienced personality providing sound leadership to the organization, with a solid record in project-, finance-, and people management. While a prior background in a non-profit, NGO environment is not required, the position holder should have a strong desire and enthusiasm to improve societal development, with animal welfare being among his or her core areas of interest.
Personally you pursue a creative, yet structured and reliable way of work with pronounced competencies for building and sustaining fruitful relations with employees, public authorities and project partners in Romania and abroad. You are target driven and pro-active, you possess excellent presentation and communication skills in English, and you are willing to relocate to Bucharest, one of Europe’s thriving capitals, on a long term basis. Knowledge of German and Romanian would be an additional asset, but it is not required for the job.
