On 26 December 2016, the band announced that new music due for release at an unspecified date in 2017 on their Twitter account. It's likely the new release will be an EP as Howlett stated in 2015 that the band may cease releasing full studio albums in favour of EPs, citing a lack of interest and the time it takes to make one. In September 2017, the band signed a new recording deal with BMG Rights Management which will release their seventh studio album in early 2018. The deal reunites the group with Howlett's song publishing, which BMG had acquired from EMI Music Publishing in 2012 as part of the Virgin Music catalogue. On 9 December 2017, during the first show of their European tour at Zenith in Munich, Germany, they premiered a new song called "Resonate" which is likely from their new album being released in early 2018. On 11 December 2017 at poppodium 013 in Tilburg,The Netherlands, they premiered another new song, which at first was called "New Beats" but was later renamed to "Need Some 1." On 15 December 2017 at The Dome Leisure Centre in Doncaster, England they premiered yet another new song called "Boom Tap."
