Joseph Weatherspoon Deploy Vehicle Technologies to Improve Road Safety
These days technology is having more and more of an effect on road safety. Using new technology such as radar, accidents could be prevented. The number of road-related accidents can be reduced thanks to the innovative automotive technology. This article will introduce 3 vehicle technologies to improve road safety.
Vehicle technologies, especially telematics systems, can improve driver safety and greatly save costs related to collisions, driver replacement and vehicle maintenance. It refers to the systems and sensor on a vehicle. Telematics merges data from vehicle systems and sensors with people to better manage fleet operations and down risk. Vehicle tracking systems port the telematics data with the GPS tracking data which becomes available to fleet monitor and guard online.
It is common that car drivers have to accidentally brake in some condition because of other road users - cycling, taxiing and driving. In this condition, you can realize how critical the braking systems are for fleet vehicles in terms of reducing collisions. The preliminary braking system can determine the speed and proximity ahead of the vehicle and ensure that the fleet vehicle remains at a safe distance to avoid any type of collision. More advanced braking systems use radar and or cameras to scan ahead of the car for moving and stationary hazards. The latest system adds safety and security feature which allows the car to automatically apply the brakes to slow the car if the driver does not respond to repeated warnings and the system detects an unavoidable collision. Telematics system allows companies to monitor and collect data in these situations to improve road safety plans.
Long distances and high speeds easily increase the risk that vehicles will roll over on curves or overly correct lane deviations. Electronic stability control (ESC) is one of the most common ways to solve this problem. ESC becomes activated when a driver loses control of their car. It uses computer-controlled technology to apply individual brakes and help bring the car safely back on track, without the danger of collision. The roll stabilization system also can correct direction by determining the possibility of overturning or overcorrecting based on gravity, direction, and speed, reducing speed and applying braking to the selected wheels to avoid collision. Every manufacturer's ESC system works a little differently, but the hardware is similar. Most ESC systems have a warning light that flashes when the system is active, and then help prevent rollovers by informing drivers of potential hazards.
Truck drivers must also be equipped to navigate and operate accordingly when visibility is reduced. There are many new solutions in the market that can help eliminate blind spots and provide support for more difficult maneuvers, ranging from mirrors to more complex camera systems. Using mirror is the passive and traditional blind spot warning way. Combining with technology, a typical blind spot monitoring system uses some kind of electronic detection device mounted on the sides of the car that sends out either electronic electromagnetic waves or takes computer-processed images with a digital camera and analyzes them.
The cost of vehicle collisions to employers is extremely high. To provide drivers with safe journeys, companies should adopt the appropriate safety technologies. On the other hand, drivers also have a stake in helping change those statistics and then push the development of safety technologies.
