Groups and forums
1. Meet people interested in the same things
Groups on XING are communities of like-minded people who work in the same job or industry and want to exchange the latest news and information with one another. Groups can also be used for people with the same hobbies and interests, or are located in the same city as one another.
2. Official XING Groups
There are four different types of Official XING Group:
- XING Community: This is the first port of call for German speakers who have questions or feedback about XING.
- Regional groups: These are groups managed by XING Ambassadors where people can talk about a certain city or region.
- Industry groups: These are groups managed by Xpert Ambassadors, i.e. experts in a certain field, and act as a forum for other specialists to discuss their expertise.
- University groups: The official university groups are an ideal place for university students, teachers and alumni to talk about their (former) university and find out the latest.
Netiquette is a portmonteau of net (from Internet) and etiquette. It means respecting other users’ views and displaying common courtesy when posting your views to XING groups. Please make sure you always observe our netiquette when posting in groups. Go to XING Netiquette
Violations of our netiquette mean that your post will be deleted. More information about this is available in point 10 of the "Code of Conduct" for moderators:
10. Moderators do not have to tolerate disturbances aimed at the group or an individual. Should a member prove to be a nuisance, moderators may issue a warning and threaten to expel them. Moderators must have issued at least one warning by means of a personal message, e-mail, phone call, etc. before expelling a member from their group. Warnings must of course state the reason why they have been issued and members are permitted to respond to the warning. Should a member be expelled from a group, the member should be notified in a polite manner.
- Every XING Groups user is aware of and respects XING's General Terms and Conditions (GTC). Any misuse of this code of conduct (coc) or XING's GTC may lead to expulsion from the group, withdrawal of moderator rights, or cancellation of XING membership.
- Responsibilities: Moderators are the point of contact in the event of a violation of the code of conduct and extensions to individual rules for specific groups. Group members should use the "Report to the moderators" feature to draw the moderators' attention to certain content.
XING will intervene if the GTC are violated. If in doubt, moderators and group members can contact email@example.com.
- Group members should always maintain a respectful tone and observe the netiquette terms, even if they are the subject of criticism. This applies to all forms of communication on XING, but in particular when posting in groups.
- Moderators are at liberty to introduce more rules in addition to this code of conduct. If a moderator does so, they are required to let members know about these additional rules as well as the group's visibility settings.
- Content of an advertising nature is not prohibited in groups. Group users should however keep such content to a minimum, make sure it's relevant to the group, and always mark advertising as such. Spam can be reported at any time by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. Moderators may not expect to receive money from their members for granting group membership or for their work as a moderator.
- Image rights guidelines for the new XING Groups:
- As a XING Groups user, you are solely responsible when posting images. Always make sure you observe third-party rights and are permitted to post an image because you created it yourself, have been granted utilisation rights by the creator, or are sure that it is a freely available work. Also make sure you always state the source or creator of any image material you use.
- Should you come across a violation of your image material in a group, please contact the XING team via the contact form and also submit your proof of copyright. We'll then look into the issue on your behalf.
- As a group moderator you're neither responsible for the content (including image material) of posts in your group. Should a member report a copyright violation to you, please check whether the violation is indeed unlawful and, if it is, remove the content. If you're unsure about any of this, feel free to contact the XING team via the contact form.
- Moderator will only delete posts if their content is in some way problematic, e.g. violates XING's GTC or netiquette). Moderators are also at liberty to move or close a thread if the discussion deviates too far from the original post or thread topic.
- Moderators play an active part in their group. In the event of sustained inactivity on the part of the moderator, XING reserves the right to dissolve the group or replace the moderator.

If a warning cannot be send to a member, the warning shall be saved. If a group rule is violated again, group members can be expelled if they did not receive the first warning.
You as a group member have a vital role to play in a group. But you also have a number of duties:
- Observe our GTC and netiquette.
- Comply with the group rules stipulated by the group moderators.
- If you have any questions, always contact the group moderators first of all. They should be able to help you in most cases.
- Don't conduct any conflicts in public and never post information from personal messages or other private sources in the group.
- Always bear the following in mind: Whatever you write, make sure you'd be prepared to say it and argue the point face to face. If that isn't the case, just let it be.
There are various roles within your group: Group members, administrators and moderators.

- edit and delete their own posts.
N.B.: If the original post in a thread is deleted, all of the replies will also be deleted.
Our new groups are designed to make it easier for people to exchange information and opinions with one another. To achieve this, we made the following changes:
- Post faster than ever: You can now post right from the group's homepage, avoiding the need to navigate to the relevant forum.
- Images and videos: Group members can now add videos and images to their posts, thus making them multimedia.
- Available on iPhone and Android: Now users can get involved while out and about as the new groups section is available via the iPhone and Android apps.
- Group presentation: The new "About this group" tab is a great way for moderators to describe their group with text and images.
- Moderator news:These are special posts only available to moderators and are indicated as such.
Visibility of public and closed groups

The new groups section has both moderators and group owners. The latter is highlighted by means of a larger profile photo and is the main contact person for group members.
The new groups version lets you post right from the group’s homepage:
- Go to the desired group and click on the text box below “Write a group post”.
- A enter a title and your text.
- Feel free to add an image.
- Select the forum where your post should appear.
- Click on “Post” to publish it.
How to add an image:
- Click on the text box below “Write a group post” on the groups homepage.
- Now click on the image symbol that then appears.
- Select the image you’d like to add.
- Now select the forum where you’d like your image to appear.
- Then click on “Post” to publish your image.
Videos can be added by entering a link to the video (e.g. YouTube or Vimeo) in the main text box of the group post. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to see a preview of the video you linked to.
Important information about copyright and compliance with our GTC
Please make sure that you have permissions to post the images and videos you intend to share and that said content does not violate our GTC (i.e. is not illegal). Posters are responsible for the content of their posts, not the moderators.

Delete group content
Group members can delete or edit their own posts and comments at any time. If you come across a post that violates our GTC, please get in touch with us via the contact form.
Remove content from search engines (e.g. Google)
Search engines index information that is publicly available on the Internet. If you added a post to a public XING group and would like to have it removed from search engine results, you first need to delete your post on XING and then ask the search engine operation (e.g. Google) to remove it from their index.
Closed groups are only available to members who have been approved by the moderator. Both the group owner and moderators can approve or decline membership requests.
Anyone wanting to access the content of a closed group will need to join the group to do so.
Closed groups are designed to allow people to discuss sensitive topics among a specific audience and only grant access to people who are genuinely interested in that topic.
1. Notification about a new post in your group
You will receive an e-mail notifying you when someone posts in your group. If you don't want to receive these notifications, please proceed as follows:
- Go to settings (cog symbol in the left sidebar), then click on the "Notifications" tab.
- There, click on "Edit" next to the header Groups e-mail notifications.
- Check or uncheck the box next to the notification type you'd like to activate or deactivate.
- Click "Save" to confirm your changes.
2. Notification about reactions to your activity
If someone likes or comments on one of your posts or does the same with a post you liked or commented on, you will be notified by e-mail (and in the left sidebar. If you don't want to receive these notifications, please proceed as follows:
- Go to settings (cog symbol in the left sidebar), then click on the "Notifications" tab.
- There, click on "Edit" next to the header "I'd like to be notified by e-mail...".
- Check or uncheck the box next to "When someone comments..." and "When someone likes something...".
Please note that you are currently unable to distinguish between likes and comments for groups and homepage notifications. If you deactivate this option you won't be notified about likes or comments at all.
These settings are designed to provide you with content that's relevant to you. We're therefore working hard to make sure we add to this offering in future. We'll let you know as and when we release new features.
To stop receiving event invitations from a certain group, go to “Groups > Your groups” and click on the “Unsubscribe from event invitations” icon next to the respective group.
To prevent a specific person from sending your event notifications, go to the invitation text on the event page and click on “Don’t want notifications like this?” followed by “Block all event notifications from...”.
XING Groups offer a large number of interesting target groups which, if permitted by the group, can also be used as a platform for presenting and advertising your services.
The Code of Conduct is listed under point 5 and contains all of the general terms related to advertising. Group administrators can also limit these terms by introducing more rules and can also ban advertising in their group altogether.
Tip for group members:
Please get in touch with the moderator team if you think that a group member is advertising in an inappropriate manner or would like to report posts as spam.
Tip for moderators:
You can specify rules for your group to define whether and what kind of advertising is acceptable in your group. If you allow group members to advertise in your group, please set up a separate forum specifically for that purpose to avoid annoying other members.
Go to the group, click on "more" next to the group logo, and then select "Leave group".
