VIE Software Development Engineer Flight Physics Loads & Aeroelastics (d/f/m)

You are a highly motivated graduate and want to get to know the work of a software development engineer? Then apply now! We look forward to you supporting us in Flight Physics Capabilities for Loads & Aeroelastics as a Volunteer for International Experience.

  • Location: Hamburg

  • Start: As soon as possible

  • Duration: 24 months

About us

The Flight Physics capabilities domain is at the heart of aircraft architecture and integration, and we develop and maintain world-class software solutions for simulating a wide range of disciplines including loads, mass properties, aerodynamics, handling characteristics, and A/C performance. We are looking for new teammates who are enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, reliable, and able to work effectively with a diverse team of colleagues.

Your mission

You will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from product definition and design to implementation, documentation, and deployment. You will be expected to develop high quality code that can be easily maintained and quickly modified without losing sight of the end solution. You will also need to translate complex business requirements into robust solutions. We work closely with the various teams in Flight Physics to ensure we understand and meet their needs. Taking pride in both the technical and operational contribution of your work, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact.

Definition VIE

The Volunteer for International Experience (VIE) program is an international program sponsored by the French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment, open to Airbus to offer young professionals the opportunity to have valuable paid work experience abroad in a technical or business function. We are looking for highly motivated graduates aged 18 to 28 years, who are citizens of the European Union (all E.U. nationals, plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein). Candidates meeting these criteria and interested in a VIE, please register before your 28th birthday on the website www.civiweb.com . For graduates who would be interested in a career with Airbus, this could be the start of a rewarding future in a dynamic and forward-thinking sector.

Your location

You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry. Experience the special flair of Hamburg in your spare time where vibrant cosmopolitan culture meets nautic legacy.

Your benefits

  • Work-life balance with a 35-hour week (flexitime).

  • Mobile working after agreement with the department.

  • Traveling overseas or within Germany (team events) is possible after consultation and agreement from the department.

  • International environment with the opportunity to network globally.

  • Work with modern/diversified technologies.

  • At Airbus, we see you as a valuable team member and you are not hired to brew coffee, instead you are in close contact with the interfaces and are part of our weekly team meetings.

  • Opportunity to participate in the Generation Airbus Community to expand your own network.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • You will design, code, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.

  • You will take an active role in understanding business requirements and translating them into technological solutions.

  • You will ask questions, challenge assumptions and bring your unique perspective as a software engineer to the table.

  • Your responsibilities will also include using your technical expertise to support users.

  • You will support the team by sharing knowledge, providing feedback, supporting others in their development, and showing leadership.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • A strong interest in Flight Physics, aerodynamics, or related aerospace disciplines and understanding how the tools you develop are used to shape aircraft design. Eagerness to learn new technologies and expand your horizon.

  • Strong foundation in object-oriented programming and hands-on experience in at least one modern programming language such as Python, or C++ (essential for developing high-fidelity simulation and analysis tools).

  • Good knowledge of Linux environments and scientific computing methods, including an understanding of how they are applied in aerospace analysis.

  • Uncompromising on code quality. Master development with version control, static code analysis, unit testing, and issue tracking would be an advantage.

  • Good communication skills. You have to be an active and open collaborator and communicator, both within and outside the team.

Please upload the following documents: cover letter, CV, relevant transcripts, letters of reference.
