Student Assistant in the Field of Environmental Robotics
10.08.2025, Studentische Hilfskräfte, Praktikantenstellen, Studienarbeiten
We are seeking a motivated student assistant with a background in engineering or computer science to join our project on developing autonomous robots for environmental monitoring. The focus of this role is the development of a GPU-accelerated 3D mapping framework that enables autonomous robots to store and process multi-dimensional environmental data—ranging from terrain features to sensor readings—in real time. The position offers practical, hands-on experience in GPU programming and real-time mapping for ground, aerial, and underwater robotic platforms.
Your tasks:
1. Develop a real-time 3D mapping algorithm using GPU acceleration for managing multi-dimensional data
2. Implement ROS 2-compatible interfaces for map publishing
3. Design basic spatial and temporal filters to improve mapping quality
4. Test the mapping framework in simulation and on real robotic platforms
Your profile:
1. Experience in C++ and GPU programming (e.g., CUDA, CuPy, or similar)
2. Familiarity with ROS 2 is an advantage
Work location: By arrangement – Carl-Zeiss-Straße 8 / partly home office possible (Flexible working hours, approx 86 hours per month)
Start date: As soon as possible
If you are interested in contributing to environmental robotics research, please send your short application (CV) by email to: hojin.lee@tum.de
