At the Fraunhofer-Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques FHR, we develop concepts, methods and systems for electromagnetic sensor technology, particularly for radar and radiometry. The institute is excellently linked with the international scientific community. Together with partners from academia and industry, we currently work on numerous multi-national research projects. In the department "array based radar imaging” (ARB), we deal with methodological and technological questions in the fields of array signal processing and imaging radar. In addition, the evaluation and application of suitable approaches using experimental demonstrators is of great importance. The detection and location of small boats in large areas of the ocean is of great importance. Due to their independence of time of day and weather, radar systems on flying platforms are suitable for this purpose. Classical maritime radar systems operate on low platforms and have the task of detecting large ships. Working together with experienced colleagues, your task will be to design, to develop and to implement multichannel signal processing techniques, which will allow detecting and locating small boats in difficult weather conditions. You will be able to verify the algorithms you develop by means of experiments, which will be conducted according to your specifications, using radar systems developed at the institute. You will report on your results at conferences and in scientific journals.
What we expect from you
An above-average scientific university degree (Diplom or Master) in electrical engineering, mathematics or physics
Experience in mathematical modelling of physical and technical processes, and in developing numerically efficient algorithms
Ideally, good knowledge of signal processing and knowledge of radar techniques
Good MATLAB skills
Very good English skills
Independent method of working, ability to work in a team, communication skills
