I studied the effect of different levels of the protein IF1, ‘the endogenous regulator of the mitochondrial F1F0 ATP synthase’ in immortalized cells after a ischemic and apoptotic (Staurosporine) injuries demonstrating that IF1 plays a key role in protecting cells from ischemia and apoptotis.

My work was the improvement of a HSV-1 amplicon vector, which expresses shRNA targeting the T Antigen-coding sequence and an enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP) as a gene reporter. To improve the efficiency of the transgene delivery we inserted into the amplicon a second copy of the GFP cDNA under the control of SV40 enhancer/HTLV promoter.
