About me
Devoted to the wellbeing of her community, Benigna Marko led a number of relief efforts that helped Florida’s Miami-Dade County cope with the effects of recent hurricanes. Acting as Assistant Director of Administration and Operations within the Department of Planning and Zoning during Hurricane Wilma, Marko organized a team of personnel that gathered information about undamaged gas stations; this allowed the media, the 311 Information team, and the Emergency Center to empower residents with tools to make informed decisions. Addressing current and future crises, Benigna Marko sat at the helm of an initiative following the 1992 Hurricane Andrew that evaluated structural damage and pursued repairs in a timely and lasting manner; during this period, she served as Building and Zoning Administration Manager.
Having spent more than a quarter century with Miami-Dade County, Benigna Marko prepared for a career in municipal supervision at Florida International University in Miami, where she pursued coursework in human resources, public policy, economics, and statistics. First graduating with a Bachelor of Public Administration, Marko later returned to the institution to complete a Master’s degree in the same field of study. She commenced her career in 1981 and enjoyed a consistent string of promotions, including appointments of Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Director for Solid Waste Disposal & Chief Disposal Services; Building and Zoning Code Administrator; and Regulation Division Chief of the Planning, Development, and Regulation Department. Benigna Marko remains an active member of the Miami community and regularly participates in neighborhood volunteer projects. During her leisure time, Benigna Marko pursues hobbies that include gardening and baking.Search the XING network
