David Astley

I started my media career as a journalist in the UK, traveled the world for a few years doing a variety of jobs, started a couple of small businesses in Australia, and then in 1980 moved into broadcast media management when I was offered the opportunity to manage a small television station in Darwin, Australia. Over the next 22 years, I worked for progressively larger networks gaining experience in both free-to-air television and radio management and satellite pay-TV, was involved in numerous mergers, acquisitions, JVs and IPOs in Australia and Asia, and then in 2002 was head-hunted to my present position as Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union.
