About me

A dedicated member of the San Antonio community, Ms. Dawn Johnson has served a number of community organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Wounded Warriors, Habitat for Humanity International, and United Way Worldwide. Ms. Johnson also supports a wide range of other charitable and educational organizations, from the Cancer Council of Reno County and San Antonio's Haven for Hope to the National Foundation for Transplants, the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation, the Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

As an undergraduate, Dawn Johnson attended Kansas State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Mass Communications in 1984. Ms. Johnson later attended the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Education program, as well as the United Services Automobile Association (USAA) Managerial Information Seminar series, the Project Management Foundation curriculum, and the Emerging Leaders program. With far-ranging interests in education and business, Ms. Johnson has also held NASD Series 7 and Series 24 licenses.

Until 2008, Dawn Johnson worked in a variety of capacities for USAA, a financial and insurance services company primarily serving current and former military personnel. Ms. Johnson began her career with USAA in 1987, shortly after graduating from Kansas State University. Ms. Johnson joined USAA as a Marketing Programs Specialist within the Property and Casualty Insurance Group. A dedicated employee and effective agent of change within USAA, Ms. Johnson attained positions of increasing leadership and responsibility. By the end of her tenure with USAA—totaling more than 20 years—Dawn Johnson had joined the Executive Council.

During her time working at USAA, Dawn Johnson restructured several divisions of the company to increase revenue and improve the organization's efficiency. She earned a strong reputation as an innovative leader, highly capable of communicating the company's vision and breaking down operational stovepipes. Ms. Johnson consistently exceeded goals set for her complex projects, and her initiatives helped moved USAA's brand from that of an auto insurance company  to that of a comprehensive financial services organization.
