About me
Since 2007, I started to work in Czech Republic in the area of Project Management, Account Management and Training services and started my own company APraCom s.r.o. which is the acronym of Antwerpen and Praha Company. You can view this on my website
Since then I have been teaching at the University of New York in Prague, the Anglo-American University and The Free Swiss University of St. George's. In the mean time, I also provided open and company courses to different Czech companies.
In December 2010, I will publish the three books about project management I wrote during the last years. You can read more about them on:
who I am?
This must be the most difficult part in a profile!
After 51 years of my life, it still stays a difficult item but I will do my best to give you a clear image of who I am!
Luc is in fact somebody who likes to enjoy life in all its facets. He likes to travel, to smoke a nice Havana cigar (may be past now), reading a book, talk with people, and observe things around him and from time to time to do just nothing…
After a challenging seven years at AT&T, I decided to look at the life in a different way. I stop running and start observing what is happening around me. I stopped watching TV and reading newspapers. And you know what? There is absolutely nothing that I am missing. On the contrary, I am seeing more things around me than before. I can enjoy the small things in life like watching birds in the trees, butterflies on the flowers. I don’t need holidays anymore because every day is a holiday. My challenge is to combine my views on life with my new businesses.
This was strongly influenced by being struck by H1N1 in November 2009 and being in a coma for over 35 days and hospitalized for more than seventy days. Every day is a gift of God and I am enjoying it at full strength!.
what I did before
A long time ago - to be precise in 1982 - I graduated from the Belgian Military Academy in Brussels, Polytechnic Division, and obtained the degree of Ir (MSc or Dipl Ing) in construction and mechanics. My first eight years of my professional career I served as an officer in the Corps of Engineers in Germany and Belgium. During that period, I learned how to work with people leading a Combat Engineers Platoon and a Company both in Germany. Some years of my military career, I was with the Military Construction Agency building and renovating military infrastructure for the Belgian Army and NATO.
After 8 years (my minimum period to serve) I changed my military career for a civilian career in aviation. I took the job of Ground School Instructor at the SABENA Flying School (BAS) where I was in charge of Mathematics, Mechanics, Reciprocating Engines, Pneumatic Instruments, Gyroscopic Instruments, Autopilots, Inertial Navigation Systems and Airplane Construction. For all these subjects, I wrote new training manuals. On request of DAT (now SN Brussels) I also completed some pilot training manuals about the instrument system of the AVRO - RJ.
Beginning 1997, I changed the Aviation business to return to my construction roots and started working for the oldest Belgian producer of concrete elements Beton De Clercq at Bruges. I accepted the post of Director of the new environmental division and opened new markets within oil, grease and fat separators and water purification systems (in co-operation with Mall Beton in Germany).
By the end of 1998, I decided to accept a new challenge and joined IBM Networking Division as Project Executive. Here I was introduced in the field of Internet and Wide Area Networking. When the division was sold to AT&T by mid 1999, I joined AT&T and finally became Account Director in charge of Large Accounts.
In 2006, I decided to rethink my life and find out what I would like to do with the next 20 years of my career. Thanks to my Czech girl friend, I moved to Czech Republic and decided to start my own company APraCom s.r.o. (Antwerpen & Praha Company) so that I can use all the skills I obtained during my career (communication, crisis management, project management, leadership, languages,...) in the way that I like.
So, after some time of thinking over what to do exactly, I decided to start working in the Project Management Training Area by organizing a series op Project Management Trainings and PMP Certification Preparation. I will also available for Project Management Coaching and Support on short time basis. At this moment, I am rewriting the first coursebook in the Project Management Curriculum - Introduction to Project Managment. I plan to teach this course in December this year. A larger number of follow up courses will be organized from 2008.
In the future, I want to extend the Project Management Courses to more specialized subjects (Risk, Quality, Scheduling, ...) and offer Project Management Services also on a long term basis. Additionally, I am constantly looking for interesting partners who want to co-operate with me or who want to bring their training programs to Prague or any other location in Czech Republic.
