About me

Maureen Van Vechten joined Morrisville-Eaton as its middle/high school band director in September 2000, continuing a successful 15-year career in music education. Under her tutelage, the district’s numerous bands have grown from 76 to 130 students, and its Warrior Pride Drumline has won first place at the Sherburne Pageant of Bands for the past 6 years. Maureen Van Vechten earned a Bachelor of Music from Syracuse University in 1993 after studying Music Education and becoming a drum major of the school's Pride of the Orange Marching Band. While at Syracuse, Van Vechten studied the flute with John Oberbrunner of the Syracuse Symphony, became a member of Tau Beta Sigma, and placed on the Dean's List for several semesters. After receiving her degree, she attended graduate school at Kansas State University, where she assisted in the direction of several school bands and jazz labs. Maureen Van Vechten continued to study the flute and performed at the University’s graduate recital in 1994. Van Vechten commenced her music education career teaching several elementary school and high school bands in Manhattan, Kansas. Her expertise on the flute enabled her to conduct Manhattan High School's Wind Ensemble at the Winter 1994 Kansas State Music Educators Association Conference. After moving to Boonville, New York, in 1997, Maureen Van Vechten began to teach weekly music lessons to students in Adirondack Central Schools. She also started to incorporate her personal passion for sports into her teaching career by coaching Junior Varsity Volleyball. Maureen Van Vechten has strengthened and excelled in her music education career through academic and professional commitment. She is a member of the National Flute Association, National Education Association, and Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Sorority.
