About me

The pioneer spirit is usually associated with the history of the American West. However something of this attitude was around  at the advent of the I-Media revolution, of which I had the great good fortune to be a part of.   I had the opportunity to work on a range of exciting innovative projects, and went on to enjoy a highly successful and varied career in the Interactive media business.

After graduating from the University of London in 1992 with a 2:1 Honours degree in Humanities, I worked on a series of publicly funded projects such as the Warburg Census and the establishment of a digital database for the Government Art collection.

In 1996 I joined Mantarey New Media initially as a designer but latterly as business development manager and finally as Managing Director.

Amongst the highlights of my time with Mantarey was the Tate - Introduction to Modern and Contemporary Art programme. This was a challenging and demanding job at the cutting edge of both digital technology and educational delivery. For our work on this project, as well as the auspicious Education Website of the Year from the Association of American Art Historians, we also received a nomination for an Interactive BAFTA in 2006.

Other awards whilst with Mantarey include Fashion Website of the year in 2004 for my work on the Lezley George website. Among other notable clients were Kings College Hospital, The Montreux Jazz Festival  and Exit Noise summer Fest in Novi Sad Serbia.  This last example was a (then) innovative live webcast of what has gone on to become one of the most important Music festivals in Europe.

Running parallel with my industry activities, I have since 1996 been working part time as a lecturer in Media Design. After being invited to give a one off lecture in digital imaging at Kingsway College London, I have worked continuously in the education sector  and am currently Lecturer in Photography and Digital Media Design on the Foundation degree programme of London Metropolitan University.

I love my work with the students and I believe my key skills to be in the field of communication of ideas. I also want to pass on my skills and business knowledge to the next generation of practitioners. Blowing my own proverbial trumpet! I am an excellent communicator and “enthuser”, a good listener who is able to translate individual customer (or learner) needs into bespoke solutions.

On top of my teaching commitments, I remain very active in the commercial world of electronic media design.  My appointment with Modabots is an exciting new venture in this direction. We have developed (and are now marketing)  an exciting range of products that encapsulate three of my Core interests...  Good design, Digital/Interactive Media, and Commerce.

Besides my aforementioned experience in business development , I I possess a sound technical knowledge of a wide range of digital design software including: Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop and LightRoom,  as well as a wide range of smaller specialised software applications. I have an understanding and working knowledge of ASP, XML, PHP & CMS design.  I also have a comprehensive experience of photographic theory and practice. My particular interest is in the development of High Dynamic Range Photography  (HDR)

My leisure time Interests include: all areas of the visual arts and humanities especially developments in arts based technology.  My hobbies include : Art Photography, Music, (especially Jazz and Rock) and whenever the opportunity arises, spending time at my apartment in Jerez de La Frontera (Spain).
