About me

Following an early career in venture capital, Ryan Kavanaugh founded Relativity Management in 2002. While with the firm, Kavanaugh represented several leading Hollywood individuals and companies, including Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney’s Section 8 Productions. In 2003, Ryan Kavanaugh began to shift his focus to film financing and he established Relativity Media, LLC in 2004. As Chief Executive Officer of Relativity, Kavanaugh led the company to early success through a major financing deal with Marvel Studios that resulted in the creation of Marvel’s now-famous Iron Man series.

Today, Relativity Media has evolved to become a next-generation studio and movie distributor with projects spanning multiple areas of the entertainment industry. Since its inception, Relativity has worked on more than 200 films as a distributor, producer, and/or provider of structured financing. Together, these films have generated more than $17 billion in international box office sales and 60 Oscar® nominations. Notable films Relativity has worked on include Academy Award-winning movies The Social Network and The Fighter, as well as popular action films Immortals, Zombieland, and Cowboys & Aliens.

Ryan Kavanaugh remains deeply involved in Relativity’s production business and has served as a producer for a variety of its critically acclaimed films. In addition to The Fighter and The Social Network, Kavanaugh’s credits as a producer and executive producer include Lionsgate’s 3:10 to Yuma, starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe; Universal Pictures’ Despicable Me, featuring the voice of Steve Carell; and Mirror Mirror, Tarsem Singh’s retelling of Snow White starring Julia Roberts. Known as one of the industry’s top producers, Kavanaugh has been named one of Fortune’s “40 Under 40 Most Influential People in Business” and Forbes’ “Future 400: Ones To Watch.”
