I started programming 3 years ago with the allknown combination
PHP/MySQL. Later on I learned the basics of
HTML, and immediately started learning about
XHTML and
CSS 2.0.
After a year I thought it was time to learn about some other programming languages, and eventually I started working with
ActionScript 2 (a lot of socket programming in combination with
PHP). Even though my applications where running smoothly, I still missed the full scale range of options a language such as
Python could provide.
Meanwhile I created some very small programs in
C#, but didn't continue extending my skills in that language.
So back to
Python: this was the first "real" language I worked with. I was amased with the options, and jumped right into the
Python world. It's a very easy language, with great oportunities,
but... it wasn't strict enough.
In my first year of my Civil Engineering studies I had a course named ICT, in which we started learning about
Java. Straight away I knew this was the language for me: enormous amount of libraries, nice and clean, and very strict.
Along these three years I also managed to get the hang of
JavaScript and I managed to understand the basics of
Oracle programming.
At the moment I'm building a MMORPG game in
Java, named Cities Of Faith. It is based on games such as Civilization, Caesar 3, Age of Empires and Rome Total War. We combined the best elements of each game, and are creating a spectacular game (If I may be so baldly). The game will be available for free, or as a gold member account at a small, monthly fee.
Besides this gigantic project I'm still working with
PHP/MySQL, in which I'm creating some webapplications. Two years ago i designed a tree based chopping cart for a company who sells cork floores, named Serena. Last year I helped someone in developping a webapplication for the University of TEES. And now I'm working on a website (CMS driven) for a Wine Trader.
Next I continue enhancing my
Python programming skills by creating some small applications. One of the first libraries I've written was an id3 (both id3v1 and id3v2) tag reader (based on a
PHP script I had written a year before).
In the
Java world I also started writing an id3 tag reader, but a lot more advanced, and better. I'm still working on it, but once it's finished I'll probably put it online for download. Apart from that I'm writing my own JComponent classes, such as a JInternalModalFrame and JInternalTitlelessFrame, as these are non existent in the
Java libraries.
Recently I was made Moderator on one of the finest programming forums I know off, namely
http://www.programmingtalk.com. I've been assigned to the
Flash & ActionScript area, but am most of the time active in the
PHP section
