Actuarial Data Scientist (m/f/d)*

The Integrated Analytics team is part of the Munich Re Life & Health department based in Munich, serving as a regional analytics centre (RAC) for Europe and Latin Americas. The team is responsible for data and analytics strategy and systems’ development, biometrics, data and knowledge modelling, and advanced actuarial analytics topics for more than 50 markets, for 500+ cedents, and 1,500+ active reinsurance contracts. We strategically invest in scalable, easy-to-use data and knowledge technologies to create and operationalize high quality products and services using structured and unstructured data, serving both internal and external clients. We believe that better data and advanced analytics can strengthen our reinsurance core and service business and will be the foundation for the business models of tomorrow.

Your advanced expertise will be instrumental in assisting our clients in the life and health (re)insurance industry to make data-driven decisions, enhance risk management practices, and improve overall efficiency.

Your Job

  • Deliver insights to internal and external stakeholders along the whole (re)insurance value chain by using traditional and modern statistical methods, in particular A/E’s, GLM/GAM and decision-tree ensembles and other advanced machine learning.
  • Conduct experience studies and other analysis related to disability, mortality, and other lines of business to identify trends, patterns, and emerging risks to support pricing, reserving, and underwriting decisions.
  • Visualize and present derived results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing reinsurance solutions by developing and enhancing methods.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-regional teams to promote a data-driven decision-making culture.
  • Contribute to projects that extend systems and tools, fostering innovation within the industry.
  • Participate in projects to drive innovations and practical solutions, especially the extension of our systems/tools landscape, and embedding with global services and infrastructure.

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree or PhD in relevant fields such as mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science, or comparable (quantitative).
  • Proven practical multi-year experience with data analytics methods, including multivariate methods such as GLMs and decision-tree ensembles.
  • Strong (statistical) statistical programming in R and SQL, also willingness to develop expertise in our technical / actuarial tool-landscape would be an advantage.
  • Experience with data visualization and respective tools (Power BI, Shiny).
  • Professional experience in actuarial department of a life or health (re)insurer and qualification as Actuary or similar desirable.
  • High motivation and ability to work on various projects at one time in a structured and independent way.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with clients and team members.
  • Very good written and spoken German and English language skills.
