Extensively educated, Dr. Alan Bowen-James holds doctorates in science education and philosophy, as well as advanced degrees in environmental law, information technology, the built environment, government, business administration, English literature, and cognitive science. Dr. Alan Bowen-James served as a professor at a number of institutions, including the University of New South Wales, where he taught sociology, and the University of Sydney, where he pioneered new programs in the history and philosophy of medicine and bioethics. At the University of Technology Sydney, Dr. Alan Bowen-James taught philosophy and cognitive science and served as a Senior Research Scientist, working with the Australia Research Council on an informatics study. During his tenure at UTS, Dr. Alan Bowen-James also co-authored competency standards for quantity surveying that are now utilized around Australia. Earlier this decade, Dr. Alan Bowen-James served as a General Manager of the Education Testing Centre of the University of New South Wales, restoring one of the foremost academic testing institutions to profitability through a complete organizational restructuring. Later, Dr. Alan Bowen-James joined Cengage Education as its General Manager and Principal Executive Officer and, over the course of five years, turned the organization into a dual sector online Higher Education Provider with degrees in Business and Accounting. A proponent of distance learning, Dr. Alan Bowen-James was also instrumental in developing online education programs for the National Institute of Accountants, Logistics Training International, the Australian Institute of Credit Management, Sport Knowledge Australia, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the National Safety Council of Australia, and the Australian Computer Society. In addition, Dr. Alan Bowen-James helped NextEd Limited develop an international consortium for online education and was instrumental in establishing Deakin University’s commercial arm in New South Wales. At present, Dr. Alan Bowen-James resides in Paddington, Australia and serves as the Chair of Wesley Institute’s Academic Board.
