Born and living in Hamburg, Germany.

Expert in the Calc spreadsheet core engine, formula compiler and interpreter.

Also deeply involved with the internationalization (i18n) framework, partly arisen from the various needs of the number parser/formatter used in Calc and other OOo/LibO applications.

Started working with computers in 1986, developed software for computer-aided production data acquisition.

Joined StarDivision in 1993, and the StarCalc spreadsheet application's team in 1994.
StarDivision was acquired by Sun Microsystems in 1999.
Sun Microsystems was acquired by Oracle in 2010.
Worked on OpenOffice.org from 2000 to 2011.

From 2006 to 2011 a member of the OASIS OpenDocument Format (ODF) committee, working on the formula specification (ODFF aka OpenFormula).

From 2008 to 2011 a liaison member of the Unicode Consortium, representing OpenOffice.org.

From 2010 to 2011 a member of the OpenOffice.org Community Council.

Since 2011 working full time on LibreOffice, employed by Red Hat.

Loves sailing offshore and cycling onshore.
