With the second COVID-19 case in Munich, January 2020, decided to leave the big city and ruralized in July 2020 in northern of Bavaria, Germany. With a perfect home office done: • 2021 some short contracts with advice and migrations, • 2022 contracted by Deutsche Bank as system engineer.

In an outsourcing project for Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), Compaq and HP in succession at the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) in 1998, I was part of the aborning of DEPATIS, an electronic patent document archive system. Application began with production of three databases (>100GB) using Oracle version 7. DEPATIS developed in 2012 into a very successful application for thousands of users on two databases (>5TB) with Oracle 10g and 11gR2 with ASM.

As member of System Support in a large development project, I was responsible for standby Oracle DBA services, like installing, upgrading, tuning, and problem solving. The environment was a multiframe Scalable Power system for integrating, testing, and acceptance. One frame contains 4 to 6 instances, including takeover concept. Architecture was based on client/server.

Database administrator of 30 databases on HP systems and one SCO Unix. In addition, I trained a junior DBA and worked out procedures for monitoring the instances..

System administrator of eight BULL AIX systems (DPX, Estrella, Escala) and DBA of several instances (CODA accounting, Oracle Applications, data-warehouse). In addition to the daily operations, the systems were migrated to Oracle's OFA (Optimal Flexible Architecture) structure. Several upgrades and migrations were worked out.

Advised and implemented new infrastructure for four UNISYS servers and their Oracle databases in a client/server environment. Also did daily maintenance on these Unix servers and databases.

Developed the server-related software for a Remote Query System; designed in CASE 5.1. Included several SQL- and ksh-scripts.

For two weeks carried out several product installations onsite for Oracle Netherlands customers.

Reorganized three HP Unix systems and databases according to Oracle's Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA) and integrated hot-backups in the daily schedule.

Installation of a production server with Oracle Version 7 and the primary release of a Management Information System in UK and NL. Further responsibilities consisted of Unix maintenance, tuning, and DBA activities of the development system and the production system.

The position held was system engineer. At the time of employment, two Unix systems were in use: one dedicated to word processing (WordPerfect) as well as an Oracle-based accounting system (EQ), and the other was dedicated to engineering tools as well as Oracle applications developed in-house. In 1993 an evaluation was carried out by me to determine a better computer system for the R&D department engineers. This resulted in a recommendation for a network with Sun servers. Temporarily engaged for a period of three months as a C-programmer. Further responsibility consisted of co-developing an interactive training program.

The working environment was a heterogeneous Unix network. After an Oracle database had been initiated by me, the first application was a straightforward personnel registration system. A salary administration system was developed with the aid of an analysis technique called NIAM. After its implementation, the data model was expanded to include activities registration.
