Profile
Marcel Baumann is working in the software and technology industry since 1990. Starting as software engineer in an industrial research and development department he worked later as international coach for a major Swiss consulting company. The next steps were project leader and system architect for a complex industrial production system for the semiconductor industry.

He founded a software services company with two partners in 1995 and developed it from a start-up with three employees to a medium sized Swiss software services company with two hundred collaborators.

bbv Software Services AG is a well-known service provider for successful customized software solutions for industry, finance and insurance companies. He is one of the founders of the company and one of the architects developing the company from a startup to a medium sized company. During the development of the company had the role of CTO, sales manager, operative management. Currently he is president and member of the board of directors and CTO.

The company employs 180 persons and has a turn-over of 26.0 MCHF in 2011.

During the development of the company he took over various management responsibilities in the area of business development, strategic orientation, human resources development, marketing, technology selection. He worked as a major business development responsible, sales responsible and coach in customer projects.

He rounded his experiences with the formation of executive master of corporate management.

Project leader, architect and coach for insurance and medicinal technologies companies. He worked also as J2EE architect for enterprise Java solutions. He is certified Java and C++ developer.

2008 – 2011: various companies -
Research and Development manager coach and Agile Scrum coach for software development departments.

Project leader for the realization of a product family of diagnostics products – Women Health, Companion Diagnostics, µBiology -for the molecular diagnostic market. The products are sold worldwide and are accordingly regulatory certified – FDA, EU -. The time schedule was very ambitious and the products were delivered on time.

The project team is around fifteen engineers and is managed using the Scrum method. The technologies are Scrum, UML, .NET 3.5, Oracle and regulatory constraints.

September 2006 - March 2007:
He took a sabbatical leave of seven months and travelled through South East Asia and Japan with his life partner Alexandra.

2000 – 2004: Swiss Re – http://www.swissre.com -
Architect for the mission critical worldwide property and casualty insurance contract management systems. The applications manages all property and casualty contracts of Swiss Re and provides extensive support for risks and pricing during the definition of the contracts.

The project team was around ten engineers and used agile methods. The technologies are JEE, Hibernate, UML, MDA, Oracle, DB2, ESB, data warehouse.

1998 – 2000, 2004 – 2006: Swiss Life – http://www.swisslife.ch -
Responsible for the definition and realization of company wide services for the private insurance business unit. The architecture is a SOA based approach with integration of legacy systems.

The technologies are SOA, ESB and Tuxedo to interface legacy systems, Java, C++, Oracle, asynchronous communication for scalable systems

1995 – 1997: Tactical communications systems
Technical project leader and main architect for a family of secure communication products – PSTN, GSM, data link, fax – used by police, ministries and embassies

The technologies are RUP, UML, C++, embedded kernels and ITU standards. A strong emphasis on cryptography and confidentiality existed for this project.

1994 – 1995: ESEC SA - http://www.oerlikon.com/assembly_equipment -
Technical project leader and application architect for a complex industrial automation project for the semi-conductor industry. The application was developed using object-oriented methods and the Smalltalk environment. Machine communication was realized in C++.

International coaching for object-oriented technologies – UML, Booch, Rumbaugh, CRC, RUP -, technology introduction and project management. Migration projects form functional methods to object-oriented methods were a key activity. The realization was done in C/C++.

Research and development of quality insurance and software engineering tools used in industrial projects.
