Research Assistant
École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne
Helped develop a mathematical framework for modelling the interactions of light with the novel optical thin films (metasurfaces), using full-wave EM simulations and subsequent data processing within an effective model (multipole expansion). Optimized nanofabrication process flows for metasurface prototypes, collaborating with internal and external scientists and finding creative solutions to overcome technical challenges. Supervisor for optics laboratories with a joy to teach students.
1 Jahr und 3 Monate, Mai 2017 - Juli 2018
RFIC Design and Test Engineer
Skyworks, Inc.
Used a variety of RF lab equipment to characterise new GaAs PAs and LNAs in development. Designed evaluation boards (PCBs) for WLAN/cellular front-end modules. Assisted in the layout of passive components (e.g. capacitors, waveguides) for GaAs power amplifiers (5 GHz). Performed electronics re-work (soldering, adjusting IC wire-bonds). Carried out a technology feasibility study for digital circuitry (fuses) on an in-house GaAs IC platform.
4 Monate, Mai 2016 - Aug. 2016
Research Assistant
Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique
Assisted in the design of a temperature controller (embedded system) for a silicon/silica chip that contained several optical waveguide resonators, which leveraged a genetic algorithm to optimize the resonator temperatures.
4 Monate, Mai 2014 - Aug. 2014
Embedded Systems Intern
Royal Canadian Mounted Police
Researched and selected components, designed a schematic, and wrote firmware for a PIC18 microcontroller in order to develop an analog video switcher capable of overlaying text on the video. Wrote low-level software in user-space and debugged a USB host controller driver in kernel-space for a confidential ARM-based Linux system. Modified a bootloader written in assembly for a PIC18 microcontroller in order to improve the reliability of the bootloader entry mechanism.
Ausbildung von Ville Tiukuvaara
1 Jahr und 11 Monate, Sep. 2019 - Juli 2021
Electromagnetics and Antennas
Carleton University
Developed a new modelling technique (mathematical formulation) for electromagnetic thin films (metasurfaces), using full-wave simulations, semi-analytical modelling (MATLAB), and fabricated proof-of-concept hardware (PCB) prototypes. Assembled and programmed a custom automated mechanical measurement system (programmed in Python) to characterize the near-field radiation of antennas in the 20 GHz - 40 GHz range.
