About me

Franco Lumachi, a medical doctor and a professor of surgery, is a dedicated professional who has, over the course of his lengthy career, displayed a capacity to not only practice medicine, but also effectively convey core tenets of the discipline to eager students. Throughout his career, Professor Lumachi has focused on breast diseases and breast cancer, Endocrinology and Endocrine Surgery, thyroid and parathyroid, adrenal gland diseases, and Surgical Oncology. He has given lectures on these subjects around the world, and his work has been featured in numerous peer-reviewed publications across Europe, the United States, and Asia. Professor Lumachi attended the University of Padua, Italy as a graduate student, receiving his medical degree in 1977. He then performed post-graduate work at the University of Padua in the areas of General surgery and Endocrinology. Additionally, Professor Lumachi studied Endocrine Surgery at the University of Verona. The University of Padua has also been the site of his post-doctoral Surgery Internship and Residency, completed in two phases over a span of 11 years. Professor Lumachi’s training, like his work, has not been confined solely to the Italian Peninsula. Starting in 1979, he embarked on what would become a series of international educational experiences. To date, he has been instructed at Boston, Massachusetts’ Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital; Lille, France’s Université de Lille and Clinique Chirurgicale; Montréal, Canada’s McGill University and Royal Victoria Hospital; and most recently, Strasbourg, France’s IRCAD-IESE. Professor Lumachi maintains membership in the following professional societies: the Oxford Collaborative Group on Hormonal Factors in Breast Cancer, the New York Academy of Sciences, The Endocrine Society, the European Society of Surgical Oncology, and the Italian Society of Surgery.
