    Heck serves as Director of the Negaunee Integrative Research Center at the Field Museum. The Museum is a leader in collections-based natural history research and social sciences in the fields of earth and planetary sciences, zoology, botany, and anthropology. The Center is comprised of faculty-level curatorial staff, research scientists, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and professional staff. The NIRC includes state-of-the-art laboratories.

    Philipp Heck directs the research program in meteoritics at the Field Museum and currently focuses on presolar grains, the early Solar System, meteorites, fossil meteorites and micrometeorites. He is the curator in charge of the collection of meteorites, one of the largest worldwide. Other responsibilities include the curation of the gem, mineral, rock and economic geology collections.
