Overview. To assess the strategic positioning of an organization and the effectiveness of its communication strategies, webLyzard captures and aggregates large archives of digital content from multiple stakeholder groups. Each week, it processes millions of documents and user comments from news media, blogs, social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, the Web sites of companies and NGOs, and a variety of other online sources. Visual user interfaces with interactive trend charts not only show how often, in what media and where information is published, but also provides a real-time account of topics that target audiences associate with an organization, its products or services. The positive or negative sentiment of documents and other types of human emotions are detected automatically, which reveals the impact of public relations and marketing campaigns on specific audiences.

Technology. webLyzard pursues applied research into media monitoring and trend analysis, drawing upon extensive expertise in natural language processing, visual analytics and human-computer interaction. The portfolio of semantic technologies sheds light on the perceptions of different stakeholder groups, reveals flows of relevant information, and provides indicators for assessing the effectiveness of marketing and public outreach activities. Advanced information exploration and retrieval requires accurate annotation services to enrich documents with geospatial, semantic and temporal tags. Such annotations describe complex relations, which are best understood in graphical form. For this purpose, webLyzard synchronizes geographic maps, tag clouds, keyword graphs as well as two- and three-dimensional information landscapes. These visualizations help users to understand the context of the gathered Web intelligence while navigating large repositories of Web documents – e.g., processing a user’s search query and showing the most relevant documents in their specific regional context, or comparing the online coverage about an organization by different stakeholders groups.

Commercial use cases based on webLyzard technologies include business intelligence, market research, campaign management, product development, and monitoring the effectiveness of outreach programs. The gathered information creates feedback loops and shows how well an organization's communication is received, understood, and remembered.
