The Logistics Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing transportation activities to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time delivery of materials. While primarily assigned to the Aurubis Richmond site, this role may support dispatching operations across all Aurubis locations. Key responsibilities include order processing; securing and organizing freight capacity; selecting appropriate transportation modes based on operational and loading/unloading requirements; tracking delivery deadlines; resolving invoice discrepancies; managing customs clearance and claims; identifying inefficiencies in transport management; and supporting the development and implementation of group-wide logistics IT systems, processes, and change initiatives, with a primary focus on the Aurubis Richmond operation.

Your Tasks
Schedule transport to ensure on-time delivery, such as, but not limited to, order processing, provision and organization of freight space considering the appropriate modes of transportation, deadline tracking, invoice clarification, customs clearance, and claims.
Check and coordinate the inhouse loading, unloading capacities, and schedule the transport orders accordingly.
Process and check order confirmations according to internal and external standards.
Monitor and coordinate inbound arrival and outbound delivery dates.
Secure freight space under consideration of economic aspects.
Proactive forwarding in case of delivery date changes to the customer.
Check and organize customs clearance (plausibility check, warranty, legal compliance, and audit security).
Ensure compliance with dangerous goods legislation.
Participate in the development of potentials for risk minimization in transport management.
Check invoices that deviate from the purchase order.
Obtain all necessary documents for import/export processing.
Active knowledge transfer to colleagues.
Support in logistics projects, lessons learned.
Communicate with suppliers and respective departments.
Implement measures to improve delivery performance (including troubleshooting).
Process claims.
Review the performance of forwarders.
Support/prepare carrier feedback/audits.
Support of the Group logistics team in the design of new IT systems and processes as well as change requests.
Establish and maintain communications between all stakeholders(internal and external).
Consult with authorities regarding customs clearance.
Work together with logistics, customer service, sampling, and productions departments.
Extensive contact with internal/external customers and forwarder and customer service departments, to identify, research, analyze, and resolve issues.
Safety
Comply with all safety regulations.
Make colleagues aware of non-compliance with safety guidelines.
Indicate physical safety gaps, make proposals, and assist with correcting any unsafe conditions within the company.
Continuous Improvement
Support and collaborate in logistics improvement projects.
Ability to understand, process, and validate all transportation processes on an ongoing basis and make recommendations on departmental strengths, weaknesses, and needs.
Continuous analysis of current transport processes and procedures as well as transport costs and proposals for improvements.
Fully understand and implement all company requirements regarding DOT (Department of Transportation regulations) relating to Aurubis processes and procedures.
Other
Work closely together with other departments to ensure lean cooperation.

Your Profile
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the field of SCM, Logistics & Transportation, or 5 (five) years equivalent advanced work as a Dispatcher.
Master’s degree is considered a plus but is not required.
Open to obtaining additional certification at the company’s request.
Minimum of 5 years practical experience in related logistics.
Proven work experience as a logistics specialist, ideally in an international environment.
Previous experience creating and presenting to various levels including relevant stakeholders and external partners.
Experience with ERP systems (SAP) and product flows.
Experience with transport web platforms (Transporeon).
Strong computer skills (business system, email, Microsoft Office Suite).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Outlook, Excel, and Word).
Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials.
Good knowledge of customs clearance.
Must be conversant in current DOT and OSHA regulations.
Good in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
Demonstrated ability to work in and through teams at all levels of the workforce.
Must be able to efficiently present information to management and forwarder.
Preferred
Possess an understanding of chemical or metallurgical (production) processes and requirements.
Ability to read and interpret prints, drawings, and layouts.
Speaking and listening language skills in a 2nd language is a benefit, ideally German.

Physical Requirements
Must be willing and physically able to walk/work in, observe and spend time in a smelter environment.
Must be willing and physically able to work in intense heat situations.
Able to sit, stand and walk for varying periods of time in the plant.
Must be able to perform the following: walking, standing, climbing, pulling, and or pushing, carrying, grasping, using hand-to-finger movement, balancing, reaching, twisting, turning, and stooping.
May occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Good physical condition with the ability to lift to 50 lbs. occasionally.
Good hand/eye coordination, motor skills, 20/20 corrected vision and hearing within the normal range. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to all safety needs on the floor or in the office areas.
Must wear all required PPE when in protected areas.
Willing and physically able to travel domestically and/or internationally, if requested.
