The Position
Our global PI environment utilizes PISym (a tool for monitoring system data like RAM, disk space, etc.) to generate essential performance data. Despite having several years' worth of this rich data, its full potential is untapped. Our support team is currently overwhelmed by a high volume of alarms, many of which may be non-critical due to sub-optimal alarm thresholds or delay times.
The Opportunity
This project aims to leverage our extensive data to move from reactive alarm handling to proactive, data-driven optimization.
Your main goal will be to:
Analyze the multi-year dataset from PISym (server stats) and related ServiceNOW tickets (incidents) to uncover hidden insights.
Identify truly critical alarms and determine if current alarm thresholds or delay times are optimally set.
Develop and propose optimized alarm settings to significantly reduce noise and allow the support team to focus on high-priority issues.
Demonstrate the improvement and success of optimization proposals using trending and reporting.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to significantly contribute to our ongoing data analytics efforts in the company. This will involve:
Statistically evaluate and perform trend analysis on data captured in PISym.
Identify the "Top 10" recurring alarms or deviations.
Utilize SEEQ (an advanced analytics tool with AI functionality and Python integration) to conduct analyses.
Simulate the impact of alternative threshold values or delay times on the total number of alarms/deviations using historical data.
Review and integrate information from relevant ServiceNOW tickets to understand the business impact of alarms.
Compare the performance and effort required for optimization using classical statistical methods versus AI-driven methods.
Create automated reports (e.g., monthly) with a scheduler to monitor system performance and success of implemented optimizations.
Develop an automated, recurring optimization proposal for alarm limits and delay times.
Who you are
Pursuing a degree in a relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Engineering), or alternatively have pursued your degree not longer than 12 months prior to the start date.
Strong analytical and statistical skills.
Familiarity with data analysis tools; experience with SEEQ is a significant plus, but not mandatory.
Proficiency in scripting or programming, ideally Python.
Ability to work independently, understand complex data and system relationships, and derive actionable insights.
Proficiency in written and verbal English is mandatory, German language skills are advantageous.
What we offer
A challenging and highly relevant project with direct impact on a global enterprise environment.
The opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI and data analytics tools (SEEQ).
Mentorship and professional guidance from experienced IT specialists.
Flexible working hours (full-time)
Flexible start of the internship or thesis (depending on the academic requirement)
The preferred start date for the internship is April 2026, duration: 9-12 months. Please state your preferred start date and the desired duration of the internship in your application.
Ready to apply? Please upload the following documents: your updated CV, a cover letter, and copies of your diplomas.
For Non-EU/EFTA citizens: Due to regulations, you must provide a letter from your university confirming that an internship is mandatory for your studies and specifying the required length of the internship. Please upload this letter, along with your enrollment certificate, CV, and cover letter.
