As a Scientist in Drug Product Development you will be responsible for developing robust formulations and lean manufacturing processes for oral dosage forms for new chemical entities (NCE). In this position you work with teams of scientists from other disciplines (chemistry, analytics, quality, regulatory and commercial production) and you represent the department in technical development teams.
The Opportunity
Development and optimization of robust formulation and manufacturing process for oral solid drug products using various manufacturing technologies (i.e. batch and continuous technologies), including the scale-up and transfers to commercial manufacturing sites to facilitate the successful process validation at the sites.
Development and implementation of new manufacturing technologies. In particular the review of available formulation science for continuous manufacturing to extract relevant generic learnings and consequences thereof, later to be applied on exemplar projects.
Routine usage of statistical tools (e.g. DoEs) and risk assessment tools for QbD (e.g. FMEA).
Participation in cross-site and cross-functional teams for the technical process development, the scale-up, the manufacturing of clinical supplies of NCE portfolio projects both internal within Roche facilities and at Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMO). In particular, application of materials science understanding to interface with particle engineering colleagues.
Authorship and review of technical reports, manufacturing instructions, process validation documents, and parts of regulatory submissions to support licensing. Preparation of technical documentation (e.g. development reports) to support CMC regulatory submissions.
Who you are
Undergraduate degree in pharmaceutical technology, food engineering, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical/ process engineering or material science with 0-3 years’ experience in oral solids drug product development or commercial manufacturing. Advanced degree (Masters/ PhD) is a plus.
Experience in development of novel formulation concepts (e.g. pediatric formulation development, 3D printing), implementation of new technologies (e.g. Continuous Manufacturing) is a plus.
Excellent communication skills, including some basic knowledge of German or willingness to learn German.
Willingness to travel occasionally.
Ability to drive for results and implement innovative solutions
Highly motivated and able to work collaboratively as well as independently
Openness and flexibility to change as well as "out of the box thinking” skills
