On behalf of our client, a multinational financial institution with activities in the fields of wealth and asset management and a location in Basel, we are seeking immediately or by arrangement a "(Senior) Legal Counsel (100%)”. The draft job description reads as follows (with minor changes from us):

Responsibilities:

• Reporting to the Head Legal & Compliance BU, contribute to the maintenance and constant improvement of the BU’s Legal & Compliance framework, including management and maintenance of fund projects and related fund documentation, and monitoring and control of legal, regulatory & Compliance requirements and risks on a national and international level
• Prepare fund documentations covering the entire life cycle of funds under Swiss and Luxembourg law. Prepare and execute the respective launches, prospectus and contract revisions, mergers and liquidations
• Advise on the required adjustments to fund structures, including registration and distribution, in the event of legal, regulatory, Compliance or other relevant changes
• Close cooperation with FINMA, external service providers as well as related oversight responsibility; handling of notifications, applications and queries from FINMA
• Manage and further develop the regulatory and Compliance oversight framework on the Swiss management company, and monitor respective changes in legislation, jurisdiction or best practices in Switzerland
• Prepare, negotiate and maintain all relevant contracts related to the Swiss funds and the Swiss management company and prepare corporate documentation
• Support or lead internal projects, process management and/or fund product initiatives
• Act as general point of contact internally and with external stakeholders for legal, regulatory & Compliance issues

Requirements:

• Bachelor (or higher) in Law, Economics or another relevant field
• At least 5 years’ relevant professional experience, preferably gained in the fund industry (in-house), at a supervisory authority or at a law or consulting firm advising the financial industry; at least 3 years of this experience must have been gained in Switzerland
• Very good English, German and French skills (each at least level B2-C1)
• Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, presentation and negotiation skills
• Ability to analyze business requirements from a Legal & Compliance perspective and transform them into actionable plans and guidelines
• Superior time management skills for working within a fast-paced environment. Experience in managing a hard workload with conflicting priorities. High level of conscientiousness, diligence and structured behavior. Able to critically evaluate situations and adapt quickly in making timely and independent decisions
• Demonstrate a high level of initiative and work well independently and as a team member
• Cultural awareness while working across regions with internal or external team members
