About the project
For a project in the Human Retinal & Central Visual Circuits Group, we are looking for a student research assistant to support routine-based immunohistochemistry work on fixed human retina. We test AAV-based genetic tools to target specific cell types in the retina. For our project, we aim to quantify the efficiency of these tools in the human retina using immunohistochemistry.
Your position
- Carrying out immunohistochemistry stainings on human retina (routine protocols)
- Pipetting, washing/incubating (including primary and secondary antibodies) according to established protocols
- Mounting the retina samples on microscope slides
- Imaging the stained samples on the spinning-disk microscope (optional)
- Careful documentation (e.g., protocols, sample and antibodies used) and coordination with the project supervisor.
Your profile
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program (e.g., Biology, Biomedicine, Neuroscience, Chemistry, Medicine, or similar)
- Very careful, structured, and reliable way of working
- Experience with pipetting and standard lab techniques; immunohistochemistry is an advantage but not required (training possible)
- Interest in retina/neurobiology, immunohistochemistry and microscopy
- Good English skills (institute/lab language)
We offer you
- Practical insights into a cutting-edge research environment at the interface of basic research and clinical research
- Hands-on training in established immunohistochemistry protocols and microscopy
- Flexible working hours in the above rhythm by arrangement, a collegial team, and good supervision
- Opportunity to pursue a Master's thesis project at IOB
Please send your application including
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- a short motivation letter (1 page) indicating relevant lab experience
- (optional) transcript of records (grades)
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
