That's what we're looking for.
As a Solutions Engineer in the Data Science & AI team, you will develop AI applications for the millions of ZEIT readers and the more than 500 employees in our editorial department.
Among other things, you will work on RAG-based search functions and assistance tools that make our journalists' work easier – from faster news publication to automated podcast transcripts.
You will work closely with our product and development teams and be in regular contact with ZEIT's editorial departments.
They also advise and support projects in all areas of Zeitverlag.
For us, agile is not a buzzword, but a practical approach: We experiment with new tools and continuously evaluate different technical approaches to keep pace with developments in the AI field.
Learning is very important to us: we attend conferences and organize our own internal training formats.
This is what you bring with you.
You have solid programming knowledge in Python, our preferred programming language.
You are proficient in working with (vector) databases. We primarily work with PostgreSQL and OpenSearch.
You have experience with Kubernetes.
You also have experience with machine learning models, particularly in the area of natural language processing.
You're already familiar with RAG applications. We currently primarily use Haystack to maintain our search pipelines.
For you, unit tests and careful documentation are part of good code.
You are interested in journalism and look forward to working in an editorial department that has high ethical standards.
You have a critical eye for data and methods. Not everything that's technically possible is good.
You have a German language proficiency level of at least C1. We write our code in English.
