Developer Experience Engineer (all genders)
Über diesen Job
Intro
JustPlay is looking for an engineer with strong Kubernetes experience to be the first member to join our newly forming Developer Experience (DevEx) team. In this role, you'll help elevate our engineering infrastructure by focusing on improving and maintaining our Kubernetes setup, evolving our tooling, and refining workflows that support the development, deployment, and operation of software.
While your primary focus will be Kubernetes, you won’t be alone in this. The DevEx team will grow alongside these responsibilities, and you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with engineers across the company to improve and automate various aspects of our development processes. If you're passionate about Kubernetes and eager to learn and expand your skills in other areas, we’d love to hear from you.
Tasks
- Take ownership of our Kubernetes-based infrastructure: ensure it’s stable, clean, and ready to support future architectural changes
- DORA metrics (Deployment Frequency, Lead Time for Changes, Change Failure Rate, MTTR) are your bread and butter that you’ll use to identify bottlenecks and lead improvements across the SDLC to move the right metrics
- Perform sanity checks, upgrades, and general improvements to make the system more robust and reliable
- Collaborate with engineers who already manage parts of the infrastructure ad-hoc and help unify DevEx practices
- Work closely with teams to define safe rollout and rollback patterns (e.g., blue/green, canary, feature flags)
- Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines and shared tooling across teams (note: CI/CD is in a good state already)
- Support engineering teams during incidents — mostly through guidance and better tooling, not firefighting
- Collaborate on deployment strategies that match our systems and company size
- Ensure scalability, security, and maintainability of shared infrastructure and internal developer tools
- Research and recommend tools that improve real engineering workflows
Requirements
You’re strong in at least one of these areas and excited to grow into the others:
- Strong, hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments
- Practical knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC)
- Solid knowledge of GCP infrastructure and core services (GKE, IAM, CloudSQL, Pub/Sub, etc.)
- Programming experience in Java, although Kotlin is preferred ideally with production-grade services or tooling
- Familiarity with DORA metrics and how to measure/drive developer productivity
Nice-to-Have:
- GitOps workflows
- Experience rolling out or managing developer platforms or internal tooling portals
- Familiarity with canary deployments, blue/green, feature flags, and other rollout strategies
- Exposure to observability stacks
- Background in software engineering (you understand SDLC firsthand)
- Experience evaluating and rolling out third-party tools for developer experience
Mindset
- Curious and systems-oriented, you look for root causes and sustainable solutions
- Pragmatic, you ship improvements incrementally, not perfectly
- Comfortable with ambiguity and scope shaping
- Focused on impact, whether through tooling, automation, or reducing cognitive load
Benefits
- Work-Life Balance and Flexibility: Flexible working hours and options for digital nomads, occasional office visitors, or regular office-goers
- Employee Stock Options: Opportunity to join our Virtual Share Option Program (VSOP) and share in the success of an already profitable company
