Job Description
Our mission
CityLAB is Berlin's public innovation lab. Together with the Berlin administration and numerous partner organizations from academia and civil society, we develop innovation projects and digital prototypes such as "Gießen den Kiez" (Grain the Neighborhood) and "Parla" to shape the future of urban life. CityLAB combines elements of digital workshops, service design, and interactive exhibitions into a space where innovation and participation are considered together. CityLAB is operated by the non-profit Berlin Technology Foundation and funded by the Berlin Senate Chancellery.
Our team
You will be part of our prototyping team and will accompany new products from conception to release.
We plan to fill the position on January 1, 2026, either full-time or part-time (minimum 32 hours per week). The anticipated application deadline is November 30, 2025.
These are your tasks:
- You operate and manage container environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
- You develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, tests, and deployments.
- You automate recurring processes, e.g. with n8n, Node-RED or similar tools.
- You will be responsible for platform and system administration for our products and tools, as well as the cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, stackit, or OpenStack), including upgrades, migrations, and monitoring.
- You ensure a high-performance, scalable and cost-efficient system architecture.
- You set up authentication and authorization systems (e.g., Keycloak) and maintain role and rights concepts.
- You manage relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
- You will support the development of observability (monitoring, logging, alerting) and further develop IT security processes to ensure BSI compliance.
What you bring:
- You have a completed degree in computer science, software engineering, system administration or a comparable qualification.
- You identify as a DevOps Engineer and find the best tools to operate stable and scalable systems.
- You have several years of experience in the operation and automation of IT systems (cloud, containers, CI/CD).
- You have in-depth knowledge of Linux, infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform, Ansible), networks, API management and security concepts, and you are responsible for the implementations together with the team.
- You see yourself as a problem solver, independently identify solutions and maintain an overview even in complex projects.
- You have strong communication skills, enjoy exchanging ideas with developers, designers and other stakeholders, and work in an agile manner.
- You have a strong affinity for Open Source, Open Data and the goals of the Berlin Technology Foundation.
What we offer you:
- Plenty of freedom to contribute and implement your own ideas.
- A meaningful role in an organization that promotes digital engagement, urban development and the digitization of public administration in Berlin.
- Agile collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
- Flexible (trust-based) working hours and mobile working 60/40 (mobile/office)
- Fair and transparent payment in line with the public service, depending on the fulfillment of the personal requirements of the collective agreement (TV-L) up to pay group 13.
- 30 vacation days per year plus December 24th and 31st as non-working days.
- Free sports facilities from Urban Sports Club or Wellhub, public transport subsidy, bike leasing, company pension scheme and subsidy for employee savings plans.
