Working at Charité

The mission of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is medical translation: transferring biomedical research findings into novel approaches to personalized prediction, prevention, diagnostics and therapies and, conversely, using clinical observations to develop new research ideas. The aim is to deliver relevant medical benefits to patients and the population at large. Since 2021 the BIH has been integrated into Charité as its so-called third pillar.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher (d/f/m) Single-Cell & Spatial Omics Bioinformatics in the research group Roland Eils starting from 01.10.2025 limited until 30.06.2029 in full-time or part-time (min. 35,00 week).

The BIH Center for Digital Health, led by Prof. Roland Eils, is dedicated to advancing innovative developments and applications in the life sciences and clinical care. We bring together expertise in omics, imaging, big data, and artificial intelligence to drive progress in biomedical fields such as cancer, metabolism, and immunology. We engage in both national and international initiatives, including ELIXIR and the Human Cell Atlas. Within the Collaborative Research Center CRC/TR 412 we investigate the molecular and cellular determinants of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher in bioinformatics to support projects of CRC/TR 412 consortia partners, as well as developing and applying computational methods to analyze large-scale omics data. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and dynamic environment at the interface of cutting-edge biomedical research and computational science.

What you can expect

  • Curating and integrating single-cell and spatial multi-omics data to create a "liver cell atlas."
  • Develop and coordinate bioinformatics data processing workflows between consortia partners
  • Implementing and applying machine/deep learning methods for advanced single-cell and spatial multi-omics analyses for liver research
  • Scientific communication (publishing papers, offering workshops, attending conferences)

What you bring along

  • PhD in a natural sciences, bioinformatics, or similar
  • 5+ years in omics data analysis using a programming language such as R, Python, Julia or similar
  • Experience with reproducible bioinformatics using Git, Conda, Docker, etc.
  • Experience with analysing single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data
  • Experience with artificial intelligence models for single-cell omics research
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and strong team working skills

What we offer you

  • A varied job in a forward-looking research institute
  • Pay group E13 TVöD VKA-K. The classification is based on qualifications, the respective experience level is calculated on the basis of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is stated for a full-time position without special or additional payments. The collective agreement can be found here .
  • Additional benefits customary in the public sector (including annual special payment, company pension scheme (VBL), capital-forming benefits)
  • Flexible working hours and the option of working remote
  • 30 vacation days per year (with a five-day week)
  • Various support offers to balance work and family life (childcare, cooperation with voiio)
  • Very good training and further education opportunities
  • Mobile citizens' office on site
  • Corporate benefits (travel, leisure, shopping, etc.), Charité Gympass, JobRad
  • Very easily accessible and attractive workplace at the
Rahel Hirsch Center for Translational Medicine, Luisenstr. 65, 10117 Berlin
