Intro
Science Policy Officer for SAPEA (100% FTE, f/m/d)
to join our international team starting 1 October 2025 or as early as possible until 30 April 2029 for the EU-funded project SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies). The project is part of the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) to the European Commission.
Tasks
Your Role:
The SAPEA Science Policy Officer is responsible for the coordination of evidence reviews, supporting or leading cross-cutting activities within the project, stakeholder engagement, communication with EU institutions, and support for public outreach activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the ALLEA Secretariat, the SAPEA Coordinator, the SAPEA SPOs, the SAM Secretariat, the SAPEA communications team, the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors, and other representatives of the European Commission.
- Drafting project outlines, including work and budget plans, and proposals for the outputs (i.e. Evidence Review Reports), occasional scientific writing.
- Contributing to the technical and financial reports of the SAPEA project.
- Organising meetings of working groups (virtual, hybrid, or in-person) and consultation processes
- Maintaining ties with stakeholders in the science for policy advice ecosystem.
- Contributing to organising the peer review process of scientific publications.
- Undertaking project-related communications activities.
- Being involved in cross-cutting activities in the SAPEA project.
- Supporting the ALLEA secretariat in organisational matters with respect to the project, including providing regular updates to the ALLEA Board on the SAPEA project
Requirements
What we are looking for:
- At least 3 years of experience at the interface of science and policy and/ or science management/ administration.
- A PhD or a Master´s degree in the natural or social sciences, ideally with some experience in working in interdisciplinary contexts
- Excellent oral and written proficiency in English, additional languages are an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in the delivery of scientific or science-policy projects, including managing budget lines, grant acquisition and reporting for third-party funded projects.
- Prior experience in scientific publishing or writing, and/or science communication is an asset.
- Prior experience working in/with European institutions, international membership or research performing organisations is desirable.
- An established network of relevant stakeholders at the science-policy interface on the European level is an asset.
- High interpersonal and intercultural skills, including experience in building and maintaining strong working relationships with a range of colleagues, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational and managerial skills, including for evidence gathering processes.
- Willingness to travel within the EU.
