OlamAid e.V. is an international aid organization based in Berlin that is dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of populations affected by crises and conflicts. Our mission is to support communities in their transition from crisis to recovery, rehabilitation, and sustainable livelihoods. One of our main focuses is on vulnerable groups and minorities within the affected populations. This role is a key position within Olamaid’s professional department.
Tasks
1. Professional Guidance and Quality Assurance
● Standard Setting: Maintain and disseminate the organization’s highest professional standards and methodologies for food security, livelihoods, and nutrition interventions.
● Program Advisory: Provide expert professional guidance to country and regional teams during the program design, inception, and critical review phases to ensure the professional quality and alignment with global frameworks (e.g., Sphere Standards, Resilience Frameworks)
● Quality Review: Upon request, conduct professional reviews of ongoing food security and nutrition programs, focusing on technical rigor, coherence, and impact potential.
● Crisis Advice: Offer specialized professional advice on integrating food security and nutrition elements into humanitarian and emergency responses, ensuring programming
meets international standards and best practices.
2. Knowledge Management and Innovation
● Evidence Generation: Lead the identification, review, and synthesis of research, evidence, and best practices in food security, sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation, and nutrition-sensitive programming.
● Tool Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of professional tools, manuals, and guidance documents used by field staff and partners.
● Innovation Scouting: Track and assess emerging innovative approaches (e.g., remote
sensing, new resilience models) and advise the Professional Department on their potential for adoption and scale.
3. Capacity Building and Mentorship
● Training Content: Design and curate professional training content and materials, focusing on specialized technical skills and knowledge gaps among field staff and partners.
● Expert Consultation: Serve as the primary internal resource for complex professional
consultations, inquiries, and problem-solving related to food security and nutrition
challenges.
Requirements
● Education: Advanced university degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in a food security-related field such as Agricultural Economics, International Development, Nutrition, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
● Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible professional experience providing professional advisory services, research, or quality assurance in food security and nutrition programming, with significant field-based exposure.
● Core Skills: Deep professional knowledge of the global food security architecture,
sustainable food systems, climate change adaptation, and nutrition-sensitive programming.
● Analytical Prowess: Exceptional analytical and research skills, with a proven ability to
interpret complex data and translate it into actionable professional advice.
● Professional Mastery: This involves demonstrating exceptional knowledge and application of concepts, tools, and best practices in the field of food security and nutrition.
● Advisory and Consulting: The Advisor must have a proven ability to provide clear, evidence-based, and practical professional advice to diverse internal and external
stakeholders.
● Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to convey complex professional concepts clearly and concisely to various audiences.
● Knowledge Management: A strong ability to synthesize information, manage specialized knowledge, and contribute effectively to the organization's learning agendas is required.
● Independence and Rigor: The role demands the ability to work independently, maintain objectivity, and apply rigorous professional standards to program and policy reviews.
● Language: Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
