The Technical Operations Head will oversee a cluster of related cross-functional, autonomous Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) each responsible for the end-to-end technical projects within a defined product group and supporting business as usual activities at our manufacturing sites. This role is critical to managing top-level priorities, dynamic resourcing, and the full portfolio of initiatives in a regulated pharmaceutical environment. Operates within a standardized governance framework and interfaces directly with leadership team.
Responsibilities:
- Accountable for project delivery and site support across all IPTSs in direct reporting line
- Maintain dynamic resourcing through approving inter-IPT resource transfers and ensuring that cross-IPT resources are deployed to best enable portfolio delivery
- Set the operational performance targets (KPIs) for IPTSs and monitoring their progress, addressing any lagging KPIs as needed, while ensuring adherence to budget
- Support the COO and Technical Operations Committee in evaluating and prioritizing major Technical Operations projects, then assigns approved projects to the relevant IPT
- Provide support to address any issues escalated from IPTSs in direct reporting line
- Work closely together with the Technical Operations Head: ZAPP / Albumin IPTs to ensure consistency in project delivery and resource sharing across all IPTs in the organization
- Manage the IPT Leads and provides guidance as needed, ensuring strong development of leadership talent
- Ensure that the strategic vision for Technical Operations bridges from the COO to the IPTs
- Expected to serve as a change leader for the Technical Operations organization
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or technical field (e.g., Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology/Chemistry, etc.)
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a related field strongly preferred
- 15+ years of professional experience in the biopharma, biotech, or life sciences industry with deep exposure to leading teams through drug development and full-scale manufacturing, such as drug product formulation, late-stage clinical or commercial manufacturing, technical transfer, CMC processes, or day-to-day technical support of full-scale manufacturing facilities
- Strength in portfolio-level oversight, balancing strategic priorities, resource allocation, and risk across multiple programs and therapeutic platforms to maximize enterprise value
- Deep fluency in portfolio governance models, including scenario planning and value-based prioritization of initiatives
- Skilled at financial management, the ability to assess tradeoffs, monitor portfolio-level performance metrics, and guide funding decisions to ensure ROI and long-term sustainability
- Effective global communicator, with experience presenting complex information to executive stakeholders and diverse teams across time zones
- Demonstrated ability to develop high-performing leaders, with a focus on coaching IPT Leads to elevate strategic thinking, enterprise mindset, and cross-functional influence
- Adept at leveraging analytics and insights to inform strategic decisions, drive portfolio transparency, and continuously improve operating models
