Start of employment: January-March 2026
The University of Bern is the third-largest university in Switzerland. The positions are opened in the Katayev research group at the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences (DCBP).

Two fully funded PhD positions are available in the Katayev group at the University of Bern, supported by the SNSF & SNSF BRIDGE DISCOVERY programs. These positions offer the opportunity to work at the forefront of synthetic methodology, with research focused on redefining molecular architecture through the development of cutting-edge catalytic platforms for functional group transfer using sustainable energy inputs (visible light & electricity for PhD-I position, and mechanochemistry for PhD-II position). Beyond fundamental discoveries, the projects emphasize applied and interdisciplinary dimensions.

We are looking
for highly motivated candidates with a background in organic chemistry and a genuine interest in reaction design, catalysis, radical chemistry, and sustainable synthesis. Prior experience in photochemistry, electrochemistry, mechanochemistry, or computational chemistry is advantageous but not required. Successful candidates should be curious, creative, and eager to work in an interdisciplinary environment that combines fundamental discovery with applied research. Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.
We offer
We offer a supportive, motivating, friendly, and collaborative research environment with state-of-the-art research infrastructure, both within the group and at the department, located in the heart of Switzerland. For more information, visit our page:
If you are interested in these positions, you can send your application directly to
