As of 1 April 2026 (or by agreement), the Department of Sport Sociology & Sport Management at the Institute of Sport Science (ISPW) at the University of Bern is seeking a PhD student.
Introduction
You will be part of the Department of Sport Sociology & Sport Management and implement a third-party funded project on "Digital Technology Acceptance, Resistance and Continuance in Sport Consumption (DiTARSC)”. The project and PhD supervision will be led by Dr. Pascal Stegmann and Prof. Dr. Siegfried Nagel. Within the scope of the project, you will focus in particular on the question of the extent to which sports consumers adopt technologies and the extent to which they resist adopting them. The pursuit of a PhD is expected as part of the project.
Your Tasks:
• Planning and implementation of the PhD project as part of the third-party funded project on acceptance, resistance and long-term technology use among sports consumers
• Coordination, implementation and analysis of sub-studies in the context of the PhD project
• Presentation of research results at colloquia, conferences and in exchange with partners from sport management practice
• Writing and publication of scientific journal articles

Your profile:
• Very good university degree (Master) in one of the following subjects: Sport Science, Sport Management, Social/Economic Sciences, Information Systems Research
• Keen interest and in-depth knowledge in the field of sport management research
• Good knowledge of empirical (particularly quantitative) research methods
• Very good English skills
• Open-minded and committed personality with an independent and quality-conscious approach to work
Other beneficial skills:
• Basic German skills
