Employment: limited term of 1 year - renewable depending on performance
PrecisionLab, led by Prof. Jose Garcia-Tirado, aims to develop new technology for managing diabetes and metabolic disorders through novel digital interventions such as advanced decision-support tools and automated insulin delivery.
Job purpose and responsibilities
You will primarily work on our Android application and its connected backend services, which is the platform we use to support research and conduct clinical trials. The app is central to our research efforts, interfacing with a number of different medical devices and our own solutions, chiefly among them decision-making algorithms for insulin injection.

- Collaborate with postdoctoral researchers, medical doctors, and other software developers to achieve novel, clinically relevant solutions in the healthcare field
- Help design, develop, modernise, and maintain software projects related to these solutions, namely an Android application and backend, both using Kotlin
- Contribute with your expertise and industry knowledge, sharing new ideas and helping shape the development team's development strategies and processes
Requirements
Ideally:
You are proficient with:
Nice to have:
- 2+ years of experience working with native mobile development and a good understanding of the Android platform, its libraries, and design patterns
- 1+ years of experience working with backend development
You are proficient with:
- Java and Kotlin
- Ktor or similar backend libraries (such as Spring)
- SQL (PostgreSQL and SQLite)
Nice to have:
- Experience with Jetpack Compose
- Experience working with Bluetooth and related Android libraries
- Experience working with medical devices (continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps,etc)
- Experience with web deployments using Azure
