The development of XR-AI frameworks is an exciting and forward-looking field. Such a framework can integrate various technologies like Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality to enhance the efficiency and functionality of XR applications. This includes model generation, model optimization, and the implementation of contextual AI to create an immersive and interactive experience. To ensure these technologies are utilized optimally, we aim to develop a comprehensive XR-AI framework that facilitates and improves the integration of AI into XR applications. To evaluate and optimize this framework, we will conduct a case study where we model and test various application areas at Mercedes-Benz AG.

Your tasks?

• Scientific preparation of the research status with a focus on relevant research questions and derivation of hypotheses

• Collaboration with multiple parties responsible for XR technologies and AI integration

• Analysis and evaluation of the current application of XR technologies in various areas and their optimization potential through AI

• Development of an XR-AI framework that perfectly fits the architecture of Mercedes-Benz AG vehicles

• Investigation of weaknesses and challenges in the integration of AI into XR applications and measures to overcome them

Your profile?

• You have a master's degree in computer science, media informatics, or a comparable technical/scientific field

• You enjoy working both in a team and individually and want to conduct scientific work with practical relevance

• You have solid knowledge of 3D development tools like Unity as well as experience with AI/GenAI and XR technologies

• You are able to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics and approach new subjects in a structured manner

• You are characterized by strong commitment and initiative, economic and customer-oriented thinking and acting, as well as a high affinity for new technologies

• You have excellent language skills in German and English

A prerequisite for employment is that a professor from a university supervises the doctoral project. The selection of a suitable supervisor is the responsibility of the doctoral candidate.
