Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented College Intern to join our team at Minebea AccessSolutions, a leading supplier of outside handles and door mirrors for Honda vehicles. In this role, you will assist in identifying opportunities for waste reduction, cycle time improvement, efficiency gains, safety enhancements, and overall production optimization within our manufacturing facility. This is an excellent opportunity for a college student looking to gain hands-on experience in continuous improvement and operational excellence within the automotive industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze production processes to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for cycle time improvement.
- Assist in collecting and interpreting data on production flow, machine performance, and material usage.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating current processes, documenting observations, and suggesting areas for improvement.
- Conduct time studies to monitor task durations and propose methods to reduce delays.
- Identify and document sources of waste (e.g., material waste, downtime, excess motion) and recommend corrective actions.
- Participate in Kaizen events and 5S activities aimed at improving plant organization and safety.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and safety, to evaluate potential improvements in production and safety practices.
- Help implement safety enhancements and conduct safety observations to ensure compliance with company policies.
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) based on optimized processes.
- Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to management.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a college program, preferably in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collect, interpret, and present data effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Eagerness to learn and contribute to a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, waste reduction).
- Knowledge of production metrics and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, DMAIC, SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Die).
- Experience with data collection tools, time studies, or related coursework.
