OHB System AG – We.Create.Space
OHB System AG is one of the leading space companies in Europe. The company is part of the listed high-tech group OHB SE, which has more than 3,200 employees working on pivotal European space programs. With two strong locations in Bremen and Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich and more than 40 years of experience, OHB System AG specialises in high-tech solutions for space. These include low-orbiting and geostationary satellites for Earth observation, navigation, telecommunications, science and space exploration as well as systems for human space flight and aerial reconnaissance. We owe our success to our employees' passion for innovation, as well as their commitment and initiative.
For permanent employment OHB System AG in Bremen is looking for a
Avionics Systems Engineer (m/f/d)
OHB's spacecrafts observe the Earth, relay valuable data, study the solar system, and much, much more. The avionics engineering department works at the core of each spacecraft: We make sure the spacecraft remains under control, make sure all science data is collected. We even make sure that on-board failures are automatically recovered - because in space there is no repair shop. We are constantly growing and in search of individuals who combine a sound technical background with a high level of motivation. If you like the stars and you like bits and bytes, we might just have the job for you: As Avionics Systems Engineer (m/f/d) you have the opportunity to work in a dedicated & motivated team to define the Avionics Architecture of the spacecraft, design and implement the data handling subsystem and its components (spacecraft control computer, telemetry acquisition units, mass memory units, …) and to develop and verify recovery mechanisms to ensure the spacecraft remains safe and operational for years.
Your Tasks
Your tasks are mission-dependent and evolve throughout the life cycle of our spacecraft design and implementation process, from initial conception to the support of the launch campaign. Depending on your experience and preferences the tasks may include:
Avionics Architecture
- Define and develop the avionics architecture of the satellite, covering initial sizing, trade-offs, interface budgets and HW performances
- Manage the avionics subsystems during detailed design and testing phases as design authority. Scope varies per mission and may include data handling, telemetry and telecommand, payload data downlink, laser communications terminal and security subsystems
- Programmatic responsibility of the avionics subsystems and corresponding teams, direct reporting to satellite project management
- Data interface management and control on physical level and across the protocol stack
Data Handling Subsystem
- Design and specification of the data handling subsystem
- Evaluation of technical proposals from suppliers
- Technical officer guiding the unit procurements throughout the lifecycle (from conception, through design and implementation phases, until unit-level verification)
- Data handling subsystem integration into the spacecraft
- Unit- and subsystem verification
FDIR Systems Engineering
- Design, specification, implementation and verification of the FDIR (Failure, Detection, Isolation and Recovery) concept within the satellite
- Coordination with subsystem engineers, software developers, satellite systems engineering, operations and RAMS
- Focal point to the customer for Satellite FDIR
Staff development is an important aspect of our work. Career paths with increasing responsibility are available, encouraged and supported through active mentoring and trainings.
Your Qualifications
- A degree in engineering with a major in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or compatible qualification
- Professional experience with satellite projects in phase B/C/D
- Self-managed, proactive and solution-oriented working style
- Ability to team leadership as well as work in a multi-cultural team
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Fluency in German is desired (Language skills can be improved through company-facilitated trainings)
