Senior Optical Engineer

I'm currently supporting a Darmstadt based technology client in their search for a Senior Optical Engineer to lead the development of advanced optical systems for high-performance applications. Location: Darmstadt
Working Type: Hybrid
Contract Length: 12 months+

Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify concept and detailed designs for complex optical systems
• Lead integration of optical components with mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers
• Develop and implement qualification and validation test plans
• Research and develop novel optical concepts and solutions
• Manage supplier relationships and external collaborations
• Participate in design reviews to ensure manufacturability and compliance

Ideal Candidate Profile

• 5+ years of experience in optical system design and validation
• Strong background in high-peak power laser beam transport systems; ultra-short pulse laser experience is a plus
• Expertise in optical materials, coatings, and testing methods
• Proven leadership in multidisciplinary engineering environments
• Solid understanding of precision mechanics and opto-mechanical integration
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
